What are Polypropylene Carpets?

Innovative technologies enable us to manufacture quality polypropylene carpets without the high price tag, without compromising on performance – durability, stain resistance, tracking etc.

Polypropylene (Polyprop) Carpets

Polypropylene carpets are the most budget-friendly carpets and offer decent stain and moisture resistance. The greatest benefit is all polypropylene carpet must be solution-dyed, meaning the colour is unlikely to fade and that it’s very easy to clean. However, their biggest drawback of “polyprop carpets” are they tend to be less durable (they may lose their shape after a couple years) compared to their nylon and polyester counterparts.

Polypropylene carpets are not suitable for areas that have high foot traffic due to their material, which is relatively easily damaged. Care must also be taken around these carpets, particularly with oil stains, which are quite hard to remove. Also, ensure to keep these carpets out of direct sunlight, as they have a low melting point and are therefore not resistant to high temperatures.

Contrary to what some people may say, the majority of polypropylene carpets are free of harmful chemicals and materials. However, ensure that you are buying these rugs from a reputable dealer which sells high-quality products. Low-quality polypropylene carpets may contain harmful byproducts, causing side effects such as nausea and dizziness.

The materials used in the making of synthetic carpets are all derivatives of petroleum. As such, these carpets have a lower ignition point. Thus, it makes them relatively more prone to fire when compared to other types of carpets. Good quality synthetic rugs will be treated with chemicals to make them fire retardant, though, so make sure you are purchasing from a reputable dealer.

Synthetic carpets are relatively less prone to static due to the fact that they don’t have natural fibres. Natural fibres are a great conductor of electricity, which unfortunately results in more static. This trait makes synthetic carpets a great option for office and car interiors.

Polypropylene carpets are a great, affordable choice for those who want the quality and feel of natural fibres without having to break the bank. Among the best characteristics of polypropylene carpets are that they have high stain resistance. This makes it a great option for homes that have kids or pets, as you will not have to worry about their messes causing permanent damage to your carpets.
